Shortly after 2:00pm this afternoon 911 Dispatchers began receiving multiple reports of a building on fire at 21900 S. Highway 213. Clackamas Firefighters arrived to find heavy black smoke and 20-25 foot flame lenghts from a detached garage that was just 10 feet from the residence. Firefighters quickly went to work protecting the nearby home and extinguishing the garage fire. The nearby home suffered only minor exterior fire damage but the garage with two cars inside was a total loss. Two people were home with their dog at the time of the fire and all escaped without injury. Fire Investigators have determined that the fire was caused by a mechanical failure in one of the two vehicles that was parked inside the detached garage. Damage has been estimated at $37,000 for the garage and contents.

Clackamas Fire would like to remind people to immediately get out of the structure and call 911 in the event of a fire. An active fire has the ability to double in size each minute that it burns so it is especially important to evacuate.
