Shortly before 4:00pm this afternoon, Clackamas Fire Units were dispatched to Linwood Elementary School at 11909 SE Linwood Avenue to a report of a fire in the building. Crews quickly arrived to find that a small fire had occurred in the bathroom and was quickly extinguished by the fire sprinkler system that was installed at the school. The fire damage was limited to the bathroom and the water flow from the sprinkler head was quickly stopped. There were some students still at the school at the time of the fire who were participating in after school programs. All students made it out of the building safely and no injuries were reported. School will start at regular time on Tuesday however; some of the activities may be moved to different rooms if restoration work is not complete.

Clackamas Fire Investigators were on-scene and have determined that the fire was intentionally set. Milwaukie Police Department is now in-charge of the investigation and will be conducting interviews to identify who started the fire.

The fire damage in this case was limited due to the early detection and extinguishment by the fire sprinkler system that was in place. Clackamas Fire would like to remind people that if they know of a youth in their community that exhibits a fascination or an unsafe interest in fire, that we have trained professionals on staff to help educate them as to the possible dangers of fire!
