Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers, with the assistance of Linn County deputies, arrested an 18-year old Springfield resident Sunday evening following his attempt to elude southbound on Interstate 5 from Albany for approximately thirteen miles until troopers successfully deployed spike strips disabling the vehicle.

On February 24, 2013 at approximately 6:21 p.m., an OSP trooper spotted a 2011 Volkswagen Golf displaying California license plates southbound on Interstate 5 in Albany that was the subject of a driving complaint. The trooper attempted to stop the vehicle near milepost 231 but it failed to yield and sped up to 120 mph as it tried to elude southbound.

After a second trooper set up near milepost 219 and deployed spike strips that deflated the left front tire, the vehicle stopped in the left lane near milepost 218. Troopers stopped southbound traffic and removed both occupants without further incident. One lane was then open for the next hour until the vehicle was towed.

The driver, ANGEL GAMALIEL GALLO, age 18, from Springfield, was arrested and taken to Linn County Jail on the following charges:

* Felony Attempt to Elude in a Vehicle
* Reckless Driving
* Recklessly Endangering Another Person
* (citation for Possession of less than an Ounce of Marijuana)

The 18-year old male passenger was not arrested and a trooper transported him to his residence in Eugene.
