ODOT: Valley, No. Coast: New lane restrictions on Franklin
Boulevard near Whilamut Passage Bridge
SPRINGFIELD -- Motorists are advised to be prepared for delays and increased lane restrictions this week on Franklin Boulevard under Interstate 5 in Eugene/Springfield. ODOT contractors will close the westbound lane of traffic Jan. 7 - 9 during daylight hours. As a result, only one lane on Franklin Boulevard will be open through the construction zone. Flaggers will control traffic in alternating directions. Motorists should anticipate 10-20 minute delays. The speed limit will remain 35 mph.
The temporary lane closure accommodates bridge construction over Franklin Boulevard and work on a new viaduct pedestrian path adjacent to the Willamette River north of Franklin Boulevard.
Motorists are asked to obey warning signs and watch for flaggers at all times as construction activity increases in the area.

The OTIA III State Bridge Delivery Program is part of the Oregon Department of Transportation's $3 billion Oregon Transportation Investment Act. OTIA funds are repairing or replacing hundreds of bridges, paving and maintaining city and county roads, improving and expanding interchanges, adding new capacity to Oregon's highway system and removing freight bottlenecks statewide. Based on recent estimates, about 12.5 family-wage jobs are sustained for every $1 million spent on transportation construction in Oregon. Through 2011, the bridge program has sustained more than 17,000 jobs. Overall, the program will create or sustain approximately 23,000 jobs.
