MOTORISTS URGED TO EXTREME CAUTION ON ROADWAYS IN RURAL CLACKAMAS AND WASHINGTON COUNTIES
Posted: January 15th, 2013 9:02 AM

Crews this morning have responded to several weather related incidents in the rural areas of Clackamas and Washington County. Motorists are urged to use extreme caution in the Rural Sherwood area, especially on Ladd Hill Road south of Sherwood, where firefighters are reporting that the roadway is a sheet of ice. Drivers need to be extra cautious if traveling through this area, as well as other areas of higher elevation. Motorists should be prepared to use chains or other traction devices if necessary, or wait to leave home until temperatures warm up.
To help crews safely navigate icy roads, all TVF&R engines, truck, and emergency vehicles are equipped with tire chains. The District, with over 100 emergency response units in its 210 square mile service area, has over 400 sets of chains in service (this includes a set for both front and back tires, as well as back-up sets for each engine). In past years, the District's 4x4 rescue pumpers, transportable medic units, Cars, and Brush Rigs have been pressed into service and have enabled crews to navigate treacherous roads to respond to emergencies and deliver patients to awaiting ambulances. So far the weather has not affected our crew's ability to respond to 911 calls in our service area.
