A Keizer man is facing DUII and Reckless Driving charges after being cited by Oregon State Police (OSP) following an early Tuesday morning injury traffic crash on Interstate 5 in the Salem area. Troopers said this was the second DUII-involved crash investigated at the same location in consecutive nights.
On January 15, 2013 at approximately 12:03 a.m., a 2002 Lexus four-door driven by JOHN C. STEVENS, age 32, from Keizer, was northbound on Interstate 5 near milepost 257 in the right hand lane when it crashed into the back of a moving commercial truck pulling a semi-trailer. The Lexus was briefly lodged underneath the back of the semi-trailer as they continued northbound for a short distance before pulling onto the right shoulder. The Lexus dislodged from under the back of the trailer and stopped on its own on the shoulder.
STEVENS was transported by ambulance to Salem Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. He was cited by OSP to appear in Marion County Circuit Court for DUII and Reckless Driving.
The truck's driver was not injured.
OSP troopers from the Salem Area Command office responded and investigated the crash. Trooper Michael Lacer is the lead investigator.
OSP was assisted at the scene by Salem Fire Department, Rural & Metro Ambulance Service, and ODOT. One northbound lane was blocked about 90 minutes.
