CREWS QUICKLY CONTAIN BEAVERTON HOUSE FIRE THIS AFTERNOON
Posted: January 4th, 2013 6:39 PM
At 3:15pm this afternoon crews were dispatched to a reported house fire at 11135 SW Center St. in Beaverton. The occupant reported heavy smoke coming into a rear bedroom of the home and exited the residence as she was calling 911. Arriving firefighters quickly discovered a small fire burning in an attached garage alongside the residence. Crews were able to contain the fire to the garage, and prevented damage to the main portion of the residence. The fire was reported under control within 10 minutes of the first arriving crews. The one occupant who was home at the time of the fire told firefighters that she was alerted to the fire by the smell of smoke. Firefighters found that the home had no working smoke alarms. Firefighters reported that this home was being shared by many different occupants, and the potential for a significant tragedy existed had the fire occurred at night when the residents would have been sleeping. Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue would like to remi
nd citizens that the single best way to ensure your family is safely alerted to a fire in your home is to install working smoke alarms on each level of your home, and outside of all sleeping areas. Fire crews assisted the family with installing smoke detectors before clearing the scene. A Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue investigator has been called to the scene to determine the cause. No damage estimate is available.
