On January 7, 2013, at about 10:24 am, Clackamas County Sheriff's Office deputies were notified of a dog stranded on an island in the Clackamas River near the 17400 block of South Palmer Road, Oregon City.

Deputies were able to gather the equipment and personnel necessary and got to the island about 1:00 pm. With the assistance of rescue personnel from Clackamas Fire District #1, they located the dog, a 30 pound chow mix.

The dog initially struggled against the rescue efforts and swam across the river, but ultimately was brought under control and placed on a Sheriff's Office boat. The dog calmed down as he was being held during the boat ride and deputies transported him to the Barton Park boat ramp to meet Clackamas County Dog Services.

The dog did not have a collar or name tag. It will be examined by personnel at Clackamas County Dog Services.

If you know who owns the dog, please contact Clackamas County Dog Control at 503-722-6519.
