CCSO: DRIVER TAKEN FOR MENTAL HEALTH EVALUATION AFTER ATTEMPTING TO ELUDE CLACKAMAS SHERIFF'S OFFICE DEPUTIES

On January 8, 2013, at about 1:00 pm, Clackamas County Sheriff's Office deputies were dispatched to the area of SE Sunnyside Road and SE 122nd Avenue after Clackamas 911 dispatch received several calls of a reckless driver in a black Chevy Tahoe.
Within a few minutes, a traffic enforcement deputy from the Happy Valley Police located the vehicle as it sped east on SE Sunnyside Road. The driver of the car did not stop despite several cars from the Sheriff's Office being behind it with lights and sirens on.
The suspect driver continued east on SE Sunnyside Road then turned around at SE 172nd Avenue and drove back to the west.
Deputies attempted a pursuit intervention technique but were unsuccessful. Deputies deployed spike strips on the suspect car and were successful in getting the driver to stop near SE Sunnyside Road and SE Valley View Terrace.
Deputies were able to get the driver into custody without further incident.
The suspect was identified as James Lee Givart, age 44, of Vancouver, Washington.
Mr. Givart was transported to an area hospital on a Police Officer Hold for a physical and mental health evaluation.
Charges of Attempt to Elude Felony and Reckless Driving will be submitted to the Clackamas County District Attorney's Office.
The Sheriff's Office does not have a photograph of the suspect available.
No injuries were reported in this incident.
