WINTER DRIVING CONDITIONS FACTOR IN MULTIPLE CRASHES IN CENTRAL OREGON

Oregon State Police (OSP) and ODOT urge travelers to be alert and prepared for potential hazardous winter driving conditions on many mountain passes and other areas as people travel this weekend and for the upcoming holidays.
OSP troopers have responded to more than 30 crashes and vehicles sliding off the road along Highway 97 between Chemult and Warm Springs as well as several other incidents on Highway 20W west from Bend into the Santiam Pass area. In addition, two vehicles became partially entrapped following a snow slide onto Highway 20W at Hogg Rock. No one was injured and both vehicles were driven from the scene after being removed from the snow that blocked the westbound lanes about two hours.
Highway 97 in the Madras area Sunday afternoon has become very icy. Troopers and local emergency responders have gone to 4 rollover crashes between milepost 98 and 102 south of Madras.
Make sure your vehicles are prepared and equipped for winter driving conditions. Carry tire chains that fit your vehicle's tires if traveling any mountain pass or area where chains could be required.
