VEHICLE CRASH OFF INTERSTATE 84 INTO COLUMBIA RIVER NEAR MOSIER

Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers, with the assistance of local emergency responders, are at the scene of a traffic crash along the westbound lanes of Interstate 84 about a mile west of Mosier in which a vehicle reportedly lost control on ice, crashed through a guardrail and went into the Columbia River. A dive team is on scene searching the water for the vehicle to confirm if another person is inside after the driver escaped.
Preliminary information indicates on December 31, 2012 at approximately 4:20 p.m., a vehicle driven by an adult male was westbound on Interstate 84 near milepost 69 when its driver lost control on icy road conditions. The vehicle crashed into a guardrail and continued into the Columbia River. The driver escaped the vehicle and was subsequently transported to an area hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
The right hand westbound lane is blocked for an unknown period. Icy conditions reported in the parts of the Columbia River Gorge. Traffic and road updates www.TripCheck.com.
