TVF&R REMINDS PUBLIC OF SANDBAG SITES AND TIPS IN ADVANCE OF HEAVY RAIN
Posted: December 3rd, 2012 3:58 PM
With another round of heavy rain expected on Tuesday, the Portland area is likely to experience some localized flooding. TVF&R reminds the public of the following tips:
* Inspect the culverts and street drains near your home to ensure they are not clogged by leaves or other debris. Do not remove storm drain coverings.
* Local roads are likely to have a large amount of standing water. Minimize your risk of an accident by reducing your speed and increasing stopping distance between you and the car ahead. Turn on your headlights so as to be seen by other drivers and minimize distractions like cell phones. Replace windshield wipers and fill windshield washer fluid if needed.
* Should you need to protect your home from encroaching water, free sand and bags are available at numerous locations throughout Washington and Clackamas County. These locations can be found on TVF&R's website at www.tvfr.com (click on the front page link titled "Public Sand Bag Sites"). All sites are self-service - bring a shovel and two people to fill bags.
* Take time now to ensure that you have emergency supplies in case of a power outage.
