December 23, 2012 - After investigating a single vehicle crash in rural Washington County, two passengers and the driver were arrested, an additional passenger was not arrested.
At 5:59 am this morning, a Tualatin Police officer was returning to the City of Tualatin after a trip to the jail. While driving on SW Schools-Sherwood Road in rural Washington County, the officer noticed four men walking on the side of the road. The officer then noticed a single vehicle crash on a sharp turn. The officer stopped to investigate and all four of the men ran.
The Tualatin Officer was able to detain one of the passengers, 20-year-old Nicholas Bongiorno of Tigard. Bongiorno sustained an injury from the crash and required medical attention. The officer also learned Bongiorno had an outstanding warrant for his arrest for Probation Violation (Att. PCS Heroin).
Due to the proximity of Sherwood, the Sherwood Police responded and made contact with two men walking along side of the road north of the crash. He was able to determine they were passengers in the vehicle. A responding Washington County Deputy arrived to assist and located a gun on 21-year-old Christopher Morgan of Milwaukie. He was arrested for Unlawful Possession of a Weapon for carrying a gun without a valid permit. The other subject was not arrested.
Responding deputies were still looking for the driver of the vehicle. They went back to the last known location, started a K9 track, and after a short search located 21-year-old Daniel Steffen of Tigard. He was arrested for Failure to Perform the Duties of a Driver.
All three were lodged in the Washington County Jail.
