STREET CLOSURES DURING BEAVERTON'S TREE LIGHTING AND HOLIDAY OPEN HOUSE

The community is invited to celebrate the holiday season at Beaverton's 9th annual Tree Lighting Ceremony and Holiday Open House on Friday, Dec. 7. Festivities begin at 5 p.m. in the Beaverton City Library (12375 SW 5th Street) with the Holiday Open House, which includes a children's craft workshop, informational booths about city programs and projects, performances by the Beaverton Community Band and opportunities to visit with Santa Claus.
To ensure the safety of pedestrians during this time, SW 5th Street between SW Hall Boulevard and SW Watson Avenue will be closed from 4:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. Westbound traffic will be diverted south on SW Lombard Avenue.
Beginning at 5:45 p.m., visitors are invited to stroll down Candy Cane Lane for the tree lighting program, during which Radio Disney, Leikarringen of Portland (Scandinavian dancing) and the Arts & Communications Magnet Academy Synergy choir will perform. Mayor Denny Doyle and Santa Claus will officially light the tree at 7 p.m.
At 8 p.m., the Beaverton Civic Theatre will present "Every Christmas Story Ever Told (and then some!)" in the Beaverton City Library Auditorium. Tickets are $5 with a donation of a new, unwrapped toy or gift card. Otherwise, general admission is $15, $12 for students, seniors and groups, and $5 for children ten and younger. Beneficiaries include Beaverton's low-income youth as well as foster children in Washington County.
The 2012 city of Beaverton Tree Lighting and Holiday Open House is supported by Beaverton Toyota, Mt. Hood Meadows, Radio Disney and Underwriters Laboratories.
