Sherwood Receives Budget Award
One of Twenty Cities in Oregon to Receive Recognition

The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) is pleased to announce that the City of Sherwood has received the GFOA's Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for its budget. The award represents a significant achievement for the city and reflects the commitment of the City Council and Staff to meet the highest principles of governmental budgeting. In order to receive the budget award, Sherwood had to satisfy nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation. These guidelines are designed to assess how well an entity's budget serves as:
* A policy document
* A financial plan
* An operations guide
* A communications device

Budget documents must be rated "proficient" in all four categories and the fourteen mandatory criteria within those categories, to receive the award. For budgets including fiscal period 2011, only 1,328 entities received the award within North America. Sherwood has earned this award annually for over ten years and was one of only twenty cities in Oregon to earn this award this year.

"I want to congratulate our entire Finance staff for achieving this distinction, but especially Craig Gibons, our Finance Director and Julie Blums, Accounting Supervisor," stated Joseph Gall, City Manager. "Their hard work and dedication in putting together a quality budget that achieves international recognition is appreciated."
The Government Finance Officers Association is a nonprofit professional association serving over 17,500 government finance professionals throughout North America. The GFOA's Distinguished Budget Presentation Award Program is the only national award program in governmental budgeting.
