December 4, 2012-- Sheriff's Deputies responded to a serious vehicle crash. One man was seriously injured. Alcohol was a factor in this crash.
Washington County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a reported two vehicle crash on December 3, 2012, at 6:37 p.m., at the intersection of NW West Union Road and NW Neakahnie Avenue. This is in Rock Creek, an area of the Enhanced Sheriff's Patrol District (ESPD).
Sheriff's Deputies discovered that a 2012 GMC Acadia driven by Edward Thompson, 86, from Rock Creek had collided with a 1999 Dodge Dakota driven by Richard Crowder, 58, from Bethany. The investigation revealed that Mr. Thompson was traveling westbound on NW West Union Road and turned left attempting to enter NW Neakahnie Avenue. He turned into the path of Mr. Crowder who was eastbound on NW West Union Road. The two vehicles collided in Mr. Crowder's travel lane.
Mr. Crowder was pinned inside of his vehicle and Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue had to cut him out. He sustained serious lower extremity injuries and was transported to Emanuel Hospital. His injuries do not appear life threatening. Mr. Thompson received minor injuries and was transported to the hospital. Both of the vehicles sustained major damage.
Investigators believe that Mr. Thompson was under the influence of alcohol which is considered to be a factor in this crash. Mr. Thompson may face criminal charges after the investigation is completed.
The Washington County Crash Analysis Reconstruction Team responded and is assisting in the investigation due to the severity of injuries and possible criminal charges.
West Union Road was closed for six hours to complete the investigation.
