An Oregon State Police (OSP) trooper was injured early this morning after an intoxicated driver struck his patrol car on Highway 101.

On Thursday December 6th at 1:26 AM, OSP Senior Trooper Jeff Johnson was parked on the north shoulder of Highway 101 near milepost 358.  A 1987 Dodge Pickup driven by SEAN RUSSELL, age 19, of Brookings, was northbound in the right lane of travel at 63mph when it drifted onto the shoulder and struck Senior Trooper Johnson's patrol car.  The Dodge pickup came to rest about a 100 yards north of the patrol vehicle after striking a guardrail.  The operator, SEAN RUSSELL, was not injured.

Senior Trooper Johnson was transported by Cal-Or Ambulance to Sutter Coast Hospital with minor injuries and complaint of back pain.  He was treated and released at about 7:00 AM.

Brookings Police Department responded to the scene and conducted an investigation at OSP's request. RUSSELL was subsequently arrested for DUII and Reckless Driving.  His blood alcohol concentration was .18%.  He was lodged in the Curry County Jail and was arraigned this morning.

Harbor Fire Department responded and assisted at the scene.
