At 7:32 am firefighters were called to a house fire at 2603 Arbor Way in West Linn. Crews from the Bolton station in West Linn arrived to find heavy black smoke and fire coming from the basement at the rear of the house. Firefighters initiated an aggressive fire attack, keeping the fire contained to the basement and preventing the fire from spreading to the rest of the home. Firefighters from Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue were assisted by crew's from Clackamas County Fire District 1 and Lake Oswego.

The home was occupied at the time of the fire, and the homeowners told responding firefighters that working smoke alarms alerted them to the fire in the basement. The homeowners were able to evacuate safely from the residence prior to the arrival of firefighters, and credit the smoke alarm with giving them time to safely exit the home. The fire caused heavy damage to the basement of the home, and remains under investigation at this time.

Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue would like to remind residents that a working smoke alarm is the single most important step you can take in your home to ensure that you and your family can safely escape in the event of a house fire. Smoke alarms should be located on each level of your home, and outside of all sleeping areas. Remember to test your smoke alarms monthly to ensure that they are working properly.
