At 9:25 tonight, 9-1-1 dispatch received a report of a commercial fire at 31950 NW Commercial St. in North Plains, Oregon Canadian Lumber Products. When the first engine company arrived, E17 from Washington County Fire District 2, they found light smoke coming from the windows of the kiln control room in a two story metal building. The next thing they saw were flames coming from those same windows with fire spreading to the space above the control room ceiling and the roof. The Incident Commander called for a 2nd alarm which brought additional crews from Washington County Fire District 2, Hillsboro Fire & Rescue, Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue and Cornelius Fire to help fight the blaze. At 10:22 the fire was under control with the damage contained to the kiln control room and area above the room.
Investigators from the Hillsboro Fire Department determined that the cause of the fire was a malfunction of a circulation fan assembly for the lumber drying kiln. There is no estimate of structural or property damage to the building. A total of 34 firefighters responded to the fire. There were no reported injuries.
