DUII Suspect Flees Crash Scene; Family Discovers Stranger Hiding Inside Their Home.
On December 2, at about 6:13 a.m. residents in the area of SE 34th Avenue and SE Sellwood Streets in Milwaukie were awakened by the sound of a forceful crash. They discovered a swath of damage along two blocks of their residential street.
31-year-old Aaron Stewart Christensen (DOB 01-25-81) had crashed his Dodge Crew Cab pickup into a parked truck at the 11600 block of SE 34th Avenue. He then drove over the turnabout in the intersection of SE Sellwood Street, destroying streets signs and landscaping.
The vehicle continued northbound, overshooting the SE Washington Street intersection finally coming to rest in a shrub hedge. Christensen ran from the scene, leaving his disabled vehicle behind.
While police investigated the crash scene and searched the area for the hit and run driver, a family on SE 35th Avenue awoke to find a stranger was hiding inside their home.
After leaving the crash scene, Aaron Christensen found an unlocked back door of a home in the 11400 block of SE 35th Avenue. The family sleeping inside didn't realize Christensen had entered their home. The family was awakened by their dog's warning barks. Christensen was hiding in the garage which he had accessed by walking through the inside of the home. The family locked the stranger inside the garage and called 9-1-1 at 7:28 a.m.
Police arrested Aaron Christensen on criminal charges of DUII, Failing to Perform the Duties of a Driver Involved in a Crash Property Damage (Hit and Run), and Criminal Trespass I. He was also cited for Driving While Suspended.
Christensen has an extensive driving history, including previous arrests for DUII, Reckless Driving, and Careless Driving. He was booked into the Clackamas County Jail.
The family who found Christensen inside their home DOES NOT WANT MEDIA CONTACT. I have received no telephone response from the victim whose vehicle was damaged in the hit and run, so it is unknown if he would be willing to speak with media.
