News Release from: Clackamas Fire Dist. #1
DOG RESCUED FROM CLIFF
Posted: December 26th, 2012 7:46 PM
Shortly after 5:00pm this evening Clackamas Fire Crews were dispatched to a report of a dog who had fallen over a cliff. The dogs owner and reporting party said the dog was about 15-20 feet down the hillside and she would not be able to get her dog without help. "Chico" the year and a half old American Pitbull had reportedly gone missing three days prior and the owners were unable to locate him. "Chico," was located today after the owner heard the dog barking and was able to identify where he was at. Shortly after the dog was located by the owner, "Chico" slid down the hillside another 10-15 feet, moving further out of reach of the dogs owner.
Clackamas Fire Crews arrived and set up a technical rope rescue system to lower a rescuer over the edge to assess the dog for injuries and condition. After making contact with the dog on the side of the cliff, rescuers were able to escort the dog to a waiting rescue boat where "Chico" was then taken by boat to Riverside park and reunited with his owners. "Chico" appeared to be tired otherwise uninjured.
Clackamas Fire would like to remind people to call 911 in cases like this if you are unable to safely reach your pet. Often times attempting to rescue your animal in an unsafe situation leads to people being injured and in need of rescue themselves.
