The public is invited to attend a reception honoring Beaverton City Councilor Cathy Stanton, who is retiring from City Council after 19 years of service. The reception is scheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 11 from 4:30 to 6 p.m. in the first floor conference room of Beaverton City Hall (4755 SW Griffith Drive).
"Cathy has been a tremendous champion for our community," said Mayor Denny Doyle. "The city has greatly benefited by her strong leadership. She will be sorely missed."
Since 1994, Councilor Stanton has worked with practically every city board, commission and committee. She first became involved with Beaverton city government when a bridge in her Greenway neighborhood was scheduled to be demolished. After working with city officials, she was successful in avoiding demolition and having the bridge replaced, keeping a vital community link intact.
Knowledgeable on transportation issues, Councilor Stanton had long served on a multitude of committees charged with exploring the strategies that could benefit Beaverton and our region. She has served the city in many capacities, including:
* Westside Economic Alliance Transportation Committee
* Community Action of Washington County
* Beaverton delegate to the Metropolitan Area Communications Commission
