Oregon State Police (OSP), with the assistance of Deschutes County Sheriff's Office and Bend Police Department, arrested a 33-year old man early Monday morning after he attempted to elude officers in a vehicle and on foot in the south Bend area.
On December 10, 2012 at approximately 1:17 a.m., an OSP trooper attempted to stop a 2006 Volkswagen GTI on Highway 97 near Pinebrook Boulevard for an unspecified traffic violation. The vehicle failed to yield, headed west on Pinebrook Boulevard and south on Brookswood Boulevard at a high rate of speed. Shortly thereafter, the vehicle traveled off the road and struck a tree where the driver got out and ran away on foot for a short distance before he was detained by officers on the northwest corner of Brookswood Boulevard and Larkwood Drive.
The man, identified as NICHOLAS S. KLAMPE, age 33, from Bend, was checked by paramedics and not taken to a hospital. Officers searched the area where KLAMPE ran from the vehicle and found a small amount of methamphetamine they believe was discarded by him.
Subsequent investigation led OSP to arrest KLAMPE and transported him to Deschutes County Jail for:
* Felony Attempt to Elude in a Vehicle
* Misdemeanor Attempt to Elude on Foot
* DUII - Alcohol
* Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance - Methamphetamine
