###Update###

Clackamas Fire Investigators have completed their investigation and will rule this second alarm fire as undetermined. The most likely cause in this case was improperly discarded cigarettes by apartment tenants. Damage has been estimated at $300,000 to the building and contents. Remember to have a working smoke alarm on every level of you home and outside all sleeping areas.

Fire crews from Clackamas, Portland, and Gladstone all responded to a second alarm commercial fire located at 13608 SE 97th in Clackamas today. The first calls into 911 came at 1141, and reported "intense flames and smoke from the exterior deck on the second floor."
As fire apparatus arrived, people were seen throwing wrapped Christmas gifts out the second floor staircase. Due to the high life hazard of the three story 12 unit apartment structure, firefighters called for a second alarm response. Even though the heavy smoke could be seen from the Clackamas Town Center over a mile away, the blaze was contained and controlled in 20 minutes, and no injuries were reported to civilians or first responders.
Several dogs were safely rescued by firefighters during the incident, and passed off to grateful owners waiting in the cold rain. Red Cross was requested to assist the 14 individuals directly affected from the fast moving fire.
Together, the Crown Court Apartment complex management, Clackamas Fire, and Red Cross are assisting families that lost material possessions this week before Christmas.
Fire investigators are currently conducting interviews and searching for clues as to the inception of this destructive fire.
