SINGLE VEHICLE FATAL CRASH HIGHWAY 62 NORTH OF EAGLE POINT (PHOTOS)

Oregon State Police is continuing the investigation into a Friday afternoon fatal motor vehicle crash along Highway 62 near MP 62 north of Eagle Point. The crash involved a SUV passenger vehicle and a commercial vehicle. The driver of the SUV is deceased as a result of the crash.
According to Oregon State Police Sr. Tpr. Tom Harrison of the Central Point Area Command, On November 9th, 2012 at 12:20 p.m. a 2003 silver Ford Escape SUV driven by KIM PITZL, age 59, of Medford, Oregon was traveling westbound on Hwy 62 at MP 62 when he crossed over the center lane divider line into the eastbound lane where it almost collided with another passenger vehicle. However, the Ford Escape SUV then collided nearly head on with a 2007 white Freightliner truck-tractor towing an unloaded 2008 48' box trailer driven by BRYAN THOMPSON , age 44, of Medford, Oregon. Mr. THOMPSON was not injured; however, the driver of the Ford Escape SUV, Mr. PITZL was pronounced deceased at the scene of the crash.
Prior to the crash, Troopers received reports of an earlier driving complaint on a "silver suv" driving erratically on Highway 62. Troopers were in the process of responding to investigate the driving complaint when the crash occurred.
Troopers are continuing their investigation into the cause of the crash to include whether or not intoxicants were a possible contributing factor.
