A commercial truck driver was cited by Oregon State Police (OSP) following an investigation into Tuesday morning's minor injury crash in which the truck's driver lost control before colliding into a guardrail and overturning down an embankment along Highway 101 north of Newport.
On November 27, 2012 at approximately 7:30 a.m., a Freightliner truck pulling a semi-trailer driven by THEO KOHLASCH, age 45, from Portland, was southbound on Highway 101 near milepost 130 negotiating a curve when KOHLASCH lost control. The truck drove into a guardrail, went down a steep embankment and overturned onto its top.
KOHLASCH was able to get out of the overturned truck. She was transported by ambulance to Samaritan Pacific Communities Hospital for treatment of minor injuries and was later cited by OSP for Careless Driving.
Northwest Firefighters Environmental responded to the scene to handle a diesel spill while the highway was closed periodically during the day for vehicle removal and scene clean-up.
Senior Trooper Bryan Fitch is the lead investigator.
OSP was assisted at the scene by ODOT and Depoe Bay Fire District.
