Marc San Soucie, Beaverton City Councilor, has been invited to speak at the 2012 National League of Cities (NLC) Congress of Cities and Exposition. The annual conference brings thousands of city officials together from across the country to share resources, learn new innovations and explore the challenges and opportunities facing cities today. This year's conference is being held Nov. 28 - Dec. 1 in Boston, Mass.
Mr. San Soucie will be presenting at the conference workshop titled "Supporting Start-Ups and Entrepreneurs," sharing his perspective with conference participants on programs to aid entrepreneurs in their efforts to start new businesses. Fellow presenters will be economic development professionals and entrepreneurs from Boston and Asheville, N.C.
The workshop will focus on ways cities can foster entrepreneurship. The panel discussion will explore how to enable communication and a positive policy environment, how to strategically support accelerators and incubators, and how to engage partners who can provide expertise, resources, and growth opportunities to start-ups and entrepreneurs.
Additional conference programming will highlight three overarching strategies for cities: building sustainable communities, promoting strong local economies and strengthening neighborhoods and families. Each of the strategies will be explored through keynote addresses, workshops, peer networking sessions, mobile workshops, leadership training seminars, the City Showcase and the Exhibit Hall.
In addition to serving on the Beaverton City Council, San Soucie is a former software start-up company executive, has worked for more than a decade with local entrepreneurs, and is a board member of the city of Beaverton's technology company incubator, the Oregon Technology Business Center (OTBC.org).

The National League of Cities is dedicated to helping city leaders build better communities. NLC is a resource and advocate for 19,000 cities, towns and villages, representing more than 218 million Americans.
