FORMER GLADSTONE POLICE SERGEANT ARRESTED FOR MURDER

On November 7, 2012, members of the US Marshals Fugitive Task force and investigators from the Oregon City Police Department and Oregon State Police arrested 50-year-old Lynn Edward Benton on one count of Aggravated Murder and one count of Conspiracy to Commit Aggravated Murder in connection with the May 28, 2011, death of Debbie Lee Higbee-Benton in Gladstone, Oregon. The arrest occurred in Portland, Oregon. This investigation began when Lynn Benton reportedly discovered the body of his spouse in her beauty salon. At that time, Lynn Edward Benton was a sergeant with the Gladstone Police Department. When the body was discovered, members of the Clackamas County Major Crime Team responded to the scene to initiate an investigation. The Clackamas County Major Crime Team is comprised of investigators from every law enforcement agency in Clackamas County including the Canby Police Department, Clackamas County Sheriff's Office, Clackamas County District Attorney's Office, Gladsto
ne Police Department, Lake Oswego Police Department, Milwaukie Police Department, Molalla Police Department, Oregon City Police Department, Oregon State Police, Sandy Police Department, West Linn Police Department, and Tualatin Police Department.
On November 2, 2012, a Clackamas County Circuit Court Judge issued a warrant for the arrest of Lynn Edward Benton. He will be booking into the Multnomah County Jail and then transferred to the Clackamas County Jail for arraignment. No additional information will be released at this time. This investigation is continuing.
