FIRE DAMAGES DUPLEX IN MILWAUKIE
Posted: November 12th, 2012 9:46 AM
###UPDATE###
Clackamas Fire Investigators have ruled the cause of Friday's duplex fire that caused $80,000 in damage to be human error and most likely the careless use of candles. The tenants in this case had the power to their unit shut off one day prior and were using several candles to provide light in the home. Clackamas Fire would like to remind people to keep candles away from combustible material and out of the reach of children. As a safe alternative to candles, consider using the flameless candles available in stores.
###
At 12:30 this afternoon Clackamas Fire Crews responded to multiple reports of an apartment complex on fire at 4811 SE Boardman Ave in Milwaukie. The first arriving engine company reported heavy black smoke from the rear of a duplex unit and quickly went to work to extinguish the fire. Crews were able to bring the fire undercontrol in 25 minutes with the balance of a first alarm on-scene. Four people have been displaced by the fire and will be working with the Redcross to secure temporary shelter. No injuries have been reported and Fire Investigators are currently on-scene working to identify a cause and damage estimate.
Clackamas Fire would like to remind people to check their smoke alarms and ensure there are batteries in the unit and they are working correctly. A working smoke alarm could save your life.
