FATAL TRAFFIC CRASH - HIGHWAY 199 SOUTHWEST OF GRANTS PASS

Oregon State Police troopers are continuing their investigation into Monday morning's fatal traffic crash along Highway 199 southwest of Grants Pass that resulted in the death of an adult male from Cave Junction. The victim's name will be released Tuesday morning.
According to Sergeant Jeff Allison, on November 12, 2012 at approximately 10:57 a.m., a 1999 Ford Explorer driven by the victim was northbound on Highway 199 near milepost 7 when a southbound 1998 Dodge Ram 3500 van driven by DAVID HART, age not available, from Medford, traveled across the centerline. The Ford Explorer's driver swerved toward the right shoulder in an attempt to avoid a head-on collision. The two vehicles struck driver side to driver side.
After impact, the Ford Explorer spun onto the east shoulder of the highway. Its driver was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The right front female passenger in the Ford Explorer was transported by ambulance to Three Rivers Hospital in Grants Pass for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. Her name and age will be released Tuesday.
HART was transported by ambulance to Three Rivers Hospital in Grants Pass where he was treated for minor injuries.
Safety restraint use information is not available.
Highway 199 was reduced to a single lane of travel for about three hours while the crash was investigated by OSP troopers from the Grants Pass and Central Point offices. Senior Trooper Tanya Henderson is the lead investigator and no enforcement decision made at this time. OSP is requesting anyone witnessing the crash to call the OSP Southern Command Center dispatch at (541) 474-3174.
OSP was assisted at the scene by ODOT, Grants Pass Department of Public Safety, Rural/Metro Fire Department, and AMR Ambulance. Oregon Department of Transportation assisted with traffic control.
