A Brookings-area man was arrested Sunday night after crashing his pickup while attempting to elude an Oregon State Police (OSP) trooper off Highway 101 north of the Oregon/California border.

On November 11, 2012 at approximately 11:03 p.m., an OSP trooper attempted to stop a 2002 Dodge pickup on Highway 101 near milepost 358 for traveling 65 mph in a 35 mph speed zone. The driver failed to yield, accelerating to speeds up to 80 mph attempting to elude the trooper south of Brookings until turning east onto Winchuck River Road. About ten miles east of Highway 101, the pickup's driver lost control after turning onto a gravel US Forest Service Road and the pickup rolled over into an embankment.

The pickup's driver, BRETT ANDREW CARPENTER, age 31, from Brookings, was not injured and was taken into custody without further incident at 11:16 p.m. CARPENTER was lodged in the Curry County Jail for Felony Attempt to Elude in a Vehicle and Reckless Driving. He was also cited for Driving While Suspended.

OSP was assisted during this incident and at the scene by Curry County Sheriff's Office, Brookings Police Department, Harbor Fire Department, and Winchuck Fire Department.
