Two patients were taken to local hospitals after the vehicle they were in plunged off a steep embankment on Canyonview Road in rural Yamhill County south of Gaston Monday afternoon. The vehicle stopped nearly 100 feet down the embankment when it lodged against a large tree, stopping its fall.
One occupant was in the roadway when crews from the Gaston Rural Fire District arrived at about 3:30 p.m. Firefighters rescued the second occupant using ropes on the steep ledge and slick mud.
Both were transported by Metro West Ambulance with what appeared to be non-life threatening injuries. The LifeFlight medical helicopter could not respond because of thick fog and heavy rain at the scene.
Crews from Carlton Corners Towing worked for more than an hour in heavy rain to pull the vehicle from the steep ravine.
