Fatal Traffic Crash - Highway 99 near Junction City

FATAL TRAFFIC CRASH - HIGHWAY 99 NEAR JUNCTION CITY

Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers are continuing the investigation into Friday afternoon's two vehicle fatal traffic crash that resulted in death of one person and serious injuries to another at the intersection of Highway 99 and Awbrey Lane near Junction City. The victim's name will be released Saturday morning.

On October 19, 2012 at approximately 2:20 p.m., a 2008 Chevrolet pickup driven by GREGORY R. GARN, age 46, from Eugene, was stopped westbound on Awbrey Lane when it attempted to turn left (southbound) onto Highway 99. The Chevrolet pickup was hit in the side by a northbound 1984 Toyota pickup driven by PATRICK B. McGUIRK, age 50, Eugene.

McGUIRK and his 45-year old male passenger were seriously injured. Both were transported to Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend. The passenger later died at the hospital.

GARN was not injured.

Safety restraint use information is not available.

OSP troopers from the Springfield Area Command office are continuing the investigation. Senior Trooper Gale Cochell is the lead investigator.

Lane Rural Fire & Rescue and ODOT assisted at the scene. The highway was partially closed about two hours.
