PORTLAND FIRE & RESCUE RESPONDS TO LATE NIGHT APARTMENT FIRE IN NORTH PORTLAND
Posted: September 22nd, 2012 1:02 AM

At 11:28 pm Portland Fire & Rescue responded to report of an apartment on fire at 2031 N Watts St. Station 8 (Kenton) arrived just 3 minutes later and discovered smoke and fire on the first floor in one unit of the U-shaped apartment building. Fire crews stretched hose lines to the involved unit and extinguished the blaze while additional crews searched for any possible victims. The crew from Truck 8 placed ladders to the building and climbed onto the roof to assess the need to ventilate the heat and smoke from the structure. Adjacent units were also checked for occupants and it was found that firefighters had contained the fire to the single unit.

The fire was brought under control at 11:55 pm and a few fire crews remain on scene mopping up. An investigator from Portland Fire & Rescue is on scene working to determine the cause of the fire and damage estimates. More information will be released as it becomes available.
