Firefighters were dispatched to a house fire (9:53 pm) at the 5100 block of N.E. 60th ave. Station 28 arrived to smoke and flames showing from two sides of the house. Engine 12 (Sumner), Engine 14 (Vernon), and Station 2 (Park Rose) also responded. Firefighters had to put the fire out and simultaneously make sure that no one was in the home. Truck 2 opened a hole in the roof to allow the smoke a place to vent.
No one was home at the time of the incident and there were no injuries. Fire investigators are determining a cause and a damage assessment.
Shortly afterward (10:42 pm) fire crews were dispatched to a commercial fire (222 S.W. Harrison St) at the Harrison Apartments. Station 4 (Portland State), Station 1 (Downtown), Engine 13 (Lloyd Center), and Engine 21 (Hawthorne Bridge) responded to the fire. The first floor was evacuated as a precautionary measure. The fire was declared under control about 15 minutes later. There were no injuries during this incident.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
