One night closure planned for work
on New Youngs Bay Bridge
ASTORIA--An Oregon Department of Transportation bridge crew is planning to close the New Youngs Bay Bridge tonight for just one night from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. to perform maintenance work. The work is weather dependent so if it rains tonight, the crew will be doing the work on another night during September 20-21 or September 26-28.
The crew will be greasing the cable guides and counterweight guides of the vertical lift span bridge. Also, crews will be working on the armored corners of the bridge.
During the one night closure, traffic will use U.S. 101 Business/OR 105. However, emergency vehicles and trucks with over dimensional loads will be accommodated through the construction zone.
Variable message signs have been placed on U.S. 101 during the past week warning motorists of the planned closure. Motorists should expect minor delays with the detour.
