The driver of a motorhome was cited by Oregon State Police (OSP) Wednesday afternoon following an investigation into a non-injury crash in which the man pulled in front of a loaded log truck causing it to crash off Highway 229 about three miles south of Highway 101 junction. Highway 229 will be closed periodically during the afternoon while responders work to remove the truck, trailer and logs.
On September 26, 2012 at approximately 12:37 p.m. a 2009 Kenworth truck pulling a loaded log trailer driven by JERRY D. KOWITZ, age 55, from Waldport, was northbound on Highway 229 near milepost 3 when a motorhome pulling a boat trailer turned from the Chinook Bend RV Resort in the truck's path. KOWITZ steered to the right to avoid the motorhome and crashed off the north side of the highway.
KOWITZ was not injured. The motorhome's driver, ROBERT BEYELER, age 80, from Yuma, Arizona, was cited by OSP for Fail to Yield Right of Way. Both drivers were using safety restraints.
OSP is assisted at the scene by North Lincoln Fire & Rescue and ODOT. Traffic updates are available at www.TripCheck.com.
