Interagency Marion County Homicide Assault Response Team Investigating Non-Fatal Officer Involved Shooting in Woodburn

INTERAGENCY MARION COUNTY HOMICIDE ASSAULT RESPONSE TEAM INVESTIGATING NON-FATAL OFFICER INVOLVED SHOOTING IN WOODBURN

The interagency Marion County Homicide Assault Response Team (HART), is investigating a Friday night officer-involved shooting by Woodburn police officers that injured an adult male in Woodburn. The responding officers were not injured and the man is being treated at an area hospital for unspecified injuries.

Preliminary information indicates on September 28, 2012 shortly after 9:00 p.m. Woodburn police received reports of a man armed with a shotgun firing rounds outside a residence in the 1100 block of 5th Street. Information received also indicated the man pointed the firearm at passing vehicles and at least one person walking in the area.

Three Woodburn police officers arrived on scene and encountered the armed man near the street. During the encounter at least one officer and the man fired shots. The man was injured and transported to Salem Hospital for treatment.

The names of the involved officers and the injured Hispanic adult male are not being released at this time. Any additional information will only be released with the authorization of the Marion County District Attorney's Office.

HART team investigators involved in this investigation are from Oregon State Police (OSP), Marion County Sheriff's Office, Keizer Police Department, Hubbard Police Department, and Woodburn Police Department. Marion County District Attorney's Office is on scene assisting investigators. OSP Criminal Investigation Division is the lead agency.

An approximate four block section of 5th Street is closed during the scene investigation.
