Fatal Traffic Crash - Highway 260 west of Grants Pass

FATAL TRAFFIC CRASH - HIGHWAY 260 WEST OF GRANTS PASS

Oregon State Police (OSP) is continuing the investigation into the cause of a Sunday morning single vehicle fatal traffic crash that resulted in the death of an elderly male on Highway 260 west of Grants Pass. The man's name is withheld while OSP continues to try and find next of kin for notification.

According to Senior Trooper Tanya Henderson, on September 16, 2012 at approximately 11:49 a.m. a 2000 GMC Safari van driven by the victim was westbound on Highway 260 near milepost 6. According to witnesses, the van had its emergency flashers on and it crossed the centerline nearly hitting another vehicle head-on. The van continued off the road and collided head-on into a large tree.

The driver was pronounced deceased at the scene. He was wearing safety restraints.

OSP troopers from the Grants Pass office are continuing the investigation.

Rural Metro Fire Department, American AMR ambulance, and ODOT assisted at the scene.
