The Clackamas County Sheriff's Office is very pleased to announce that just after 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 22, the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force and Sheriff's Office detectives arrested ERIK JOHN MEISER, age 37 -- the suspect in the Sept. 17 murder of Fredrick "Fritz" Hayes.

Meiser was taken into custody at gunpoint without incident in front of the Super 8 Motel at 407 2nd Street in Corvallis.

The U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force had deployed resources to follow potential leads in Washington, Oregon and California -- and a team of detectives and law-enforcement personnel from multiple agencies were working round-the-clock on the suspect hunt. Soon, the Marshals developed information that Meiser was in Corvallis. A team of Deputy Marshals and Sheriff's Office detectives spotted Meiser on the sidewalk outside the Super 8 Motel, and took him into custody at gunpoint. No one was injured during the arrest.

Meiser is in Sheriff's Office custody. He is expected to be booked into the Clackamas County Jail later today.

The victim's wife, Maggie Hayes, and her family have been notified of the arrest.

Clackamas County Sheriff Craig Roberts wants to thank our partners in the murder investigation: the Lake Oswego Police Department, the Oregon State Police, the FBI, the Portland Police Bureau, and the Oregon State Medical Examiner's Office. The Sheriff also wants to offer special thanks to U.S. Marshal Burger for the exemplary service of the Fugitive Task Force.

Sheriff Roberts also wants to thank our community partners who helped heighten public awareness of the investigation: the Lake Oswego School District, Clear Channel Outdoor, the news media, and members of the public who helped spread the word about suspect Erik John Meiser using social media and other channels.

A booking photo will be made available as soon as possible.

More details will be made available as the investigation permits. Look for updates on www.clackamas.us/sheriff and follow us on Twitter at @ClackCoSheriff
