VANCOUVER POLICE ARREST TWO IN BIKE THEFT CASE
Posted: August 28th, 2012 9:28 AM
On August 9, 2012, Vancouver Police responded to the Hough Pool/Recreation center (1801 Esther Street) for the report of a burglary and theft. It is believed the theft occurred sometime between August 6th and August 7th. The building is utilized by a non-profit organization, Bike Clark County, to store bicycles which are used to teach bicycle safety. It was determined that 29 bicycles were stolen in the burglary.
The Vancouver Police Department West Neighborhood Response Team (NRT) took over the investigation and on August 21, 2012 they arrested Matthew Robert Smith, 27 and Jory John Aultman, 19. They were booked for Burglary II and Trafficking Stolen Property.
Eric Giachinno, President of Bike Clark County, expressed his appreciation to the Vancouver Police Department and adds, "The public support from our volunteers, the business community and the citizens of Vancouver has been nothing less than amazing, we're flattered. Finally, we still have enough equipment left to conduct our middle school bicycle safety courses that will begin this spring, but our board is looking at replacing and updating some of the bicycles that were stolen".
One bicycle was recovered and other bicycles are believed to still be in the neighborhood. Anyone with information on these bicycles, or the burglary, is asked to call Vancouver Police Det. Adam Millard at (360) 487-7449. The investigation is continuing.
