A 35-year old Washington man died Wednesday morning when he crashed his motorcycle while traveling along a remote section of Highway 26 south of Unity in Baker County. The man's name and city of residence are released in this update.

On August 22, 2012 at approximately 9:30 a.m. a 2011 BMW motorcycle operated by MICHAEL JAMES BARTLETT, age 35, from Bremerton, Washington, was eastbound on Highway 26 near milepost 215 traveling with a group of other motorcycles. The operator lost control negotiating a sweeping curve and traveled off the roadway onto the gravel shoulder where it began to tumble, ejecting the operator.

The motorcycle and operator came to rest off the highway. BARTLETT was wearing a protective helmet and was pronounced deceased at the scene by Unity Fire Department EMTs.

Senior Trooper Tom Hutchison is the lead investigator. Speed is a possible contributing factor in this fatal crash.

OSP was assisted at the scene by Baker County Sheriff's Office, ODOT and Unity Fire Department.
