PORTLAND FIRE & RESCUE FIGHTS LATE NIGHT HOUSE FIRE
Posted: August 25th, 2012 8:51 AM

Fire crews were dispatched to house fire (7111 n Mobile Av) at 12:48 am. Callers said that the fire was on the outside and was starting to extend into the home. The fire spread quickly, so after ensuring that all of the residents were out, firefighters fought the blaze from a defensive position.... knocking down the bulk of the fire from the outside before going back in. Station 8 (Kenton), Engine 14, Engine 24, Engine 26, and 2 Chiefs responded.

2 people, one of them being a firefighter, were taken to the hospital for burn treatment. The firefighter has since been released.

The fire started in the recycle bin and had apparently smoldered for hours. The fire then convected to the side of the home, traveling upward into the attic of the structure. A damage estimate is forthcoming.

Portland Fire & Rescue would like to remind all to keep recycle bins and barbecue grills a safe distance from your home (at least 3 feet).
