PEDAL THROUGH THE CITY ON SEPTEMBER 9 FOR BIKE BEAVERTON

- Bike rodeo begins at 1 p.m. followed by a family-friendly bike ride at 2 p.m. -

The city of Beaverton's Bicycle Advisory Committee is hosting the fifth annual Bike Beaverton event on Sunday, Sept. 9 beginning at 1 p.m. in Beaverton City Park (SW 5th Street and Hall Boulevard).

"The whole family will enjoy getting some exercise during this fun, outdoor event," said Mayor Denny Doyle. "This is a chance to experience one of our last nice-weather days and ride around our vibrant city."

Festivities start with a bike rodeo at 1 p.m., hosted by the Beaverton Police Department, which includes a bicycle obstacle course for kids. Representatives from the Northwest Bicycle Safety Council will inspect and fit helmets, and mechanics from Bike Gallery, Santiam Bicycle and Bike N' Hike will check participants' bikes and make minor adjustments.

At 2 p.m., Beaverton City Councilor Marc San Soucie will kick off the six-mile, family-friendly ride through city streets that leads back to Beaverton City Park for an ice cream social. A kid-friendly bike ride around Beaverton City Park also begins at 2 p.m.

All ride participants must wear a helmet and complete a participation waiver form. Forms are available online at www.BeavertonOregon.gov/Bike or at the event.

Bike Beaverton is presented by the city of Beaverton's Bicycle Advisory Committee, and sponsored by Northwest Bicycle Safety Council, Bike Gallery, Bike N' Hike, Costco and Santiam Bicycle.
