Injury Traffic Crash - Highway 26 near Banks

INJURY TRAFFIC CRASH - HIGHWAY 26 NEAR BANKS

Two drivers were cited by Oregon State Police following Monday morning's head-on injury traffic crash along Highway 26 near Banks.

According to Senior Trooper Steve Carlson, on August 20, 2012 at approximately 5:06 a.m., a 1998 Volvo station wagon driven by JASON R. COSTA, age 36, from Bend, was eastbound on Highway 26 near milepost 49 when it was involved in a head-on collision in the westbound lane with a 2001 Subaru Forester driven by KEVIN R. NEAL, age 53, from southwest Portland.

COSTA was treated at the scene for minor injuries. COSTA said he moved toward the westbound lane to avoid the other vehicle. He was cited for Driving While Suspended - Violation.

NEAL was transported by ambulance to Providence St. Vincent's Medical Center for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. NEAL was cited to appear in Washington County Circuit Court for DUII, Driving While Suspended - Misdemeanor, and Recklessly Endangering Another Person.

Safety restraint use information and photographs not available for this release. Investigation is continuing.

OSP was assisted at the scene by Washington County Sheriff's Office, Banks Fire District 13, and ODOT. The highway was closed about 90 minutes.
