GRESHAM, Ore. - Construction started Monday at Main City Park on a trail spur through the center of the park that will link Springwater Trail and park users to historic downtown Gresham. Construction activities are expected to last through early 2013.
During construction, access to the south Springwater Trail parking lot will be limited to pedestrians and bicycles only. Vehicle parking options in and around Main City Park during the trail spur construction are: Main City Park's central parking lot; Main City Park's Skate Park parking lot; Multnomah County Court House and First Baptist Church of Gresham shared parking for Main City Park visitors; Gresham Memorial Chapel shared parking; and City public parking lots and street parking.
Visitors driving to Main City Park to use the Coho park shelter or playground area are encouraged to park on Roberts Avenue at the public City parking lot because access to these areas from the park's central parking lot will not be direct due to construction fencing installed around the work site.
The 1,000 foot long trail spur will improve access connections for bikes and people through Main City Park and will encourage people to visit local businesses in downtown Gresham. In addition to the new trail spur, improvements include an ADA accessible, 15' foot wide bicycle and promenade pedestrian trail, a plaza with a welcoming informational gateway feature, several rain gardens and additional landscaping.
Funding for this project was made possible in part by three grants from Metro, Oregon Parks & Recreation and the Urban Trails Fund managed by the Oregon Department of Transportation.
