HOMEOWNER SHOOTS INTRUDER
Posted: August 25th, 2012 5:40 AM

On August 25, 2012 at 0216hrs Deputies with the Clark County Sheriff's Office, Officers from the Vancouver Police Department and Troopers with the Washington State Patrol responded to a residence at the 3700blk of NE 54th Ave. A homeowner had called 911 to report that he had just shot an intruder in his bedroom.

Responding units made contact with the homeowners. Upon searching the residence Deputies located a deceased 42 year old male in the bedroom of the homeowner. It appears as if the male possibly gained entry through an unsecured door and had forced his way into a secured bedroom door prior to being shot by the homeowner. The deceased is unknown to the homeowner.

Just prior to the shooting, a Washington State Patrol Trooper was on a traffic stop processing a suspected DUI driver less than a half a block away from the homeowner's residence. The Trooper witnessed a male fitting the intruder's description, stumbling down the sidewalk mumbling incoherently. The Trooper called into his dispatch center asking for other officers to respond fearing that the male was a danger to himself. As Troopers and Vancouver Police were searching for the male they were informed of the shooting.

Members of the Clark County Sheriff's Office Major Crimes Unit and the Vancouver Police Major Crimes Unit are in the preliminary stages of the investigation. Detectives are currently interviewing the homeowners and processing the scene.

The identity of both the homeowner and the intruder are being withheld at this time.
