GRESHAM, Ore. - After the team's exciting win in the Northwest Regional Championship and berth into the Little League World Series, Gresham Mayor Shane Bemis has traveled to Williamsport, Pa., to root on the Gresham Nationals in their first game of the Series.

"After seeing this community rally to raise funds for the families and support the kids, I knew there was something special going on in our hometown," Bemis said. "I simply couldn't imagine missing the opportunity to represent the community by coming to support these kids in person."

The Gresham Nationals play their first game against the Great Lakes Regional Champions at 5 p.m. Pacific Standard Time today. Bemis will be available for comment from the Little League World Series throughout the day. To schedule an interview, contact Eric Chambers at 503-618-2584.

Bemis met with the team this morning to share the community's enthusiasm for their success and to wish them luck before tonight's big game. He presented the team with the original pennant from the 1981 Gresham Little League Girls Softball World Series Championship win.

Bemis' travel was entirely paid for with personal funds.

The game will air live on ESPN at 5:00 p.m.
