WASCO COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE INVESTIGATING DOUBLE DROWNING AT WHITE RIVER FALLS EAST OF TYGH VALLEY

The following is a news release sent on behalf of Wasco County Sheriff's Office. Any additional details are not anticipated for release until Tuesday by Undersheriff Lane McGill.

Wasco County Sheriff's Office is investigating the death of two males who drowned Monday afternoon at the main falls of White River Falls Day Use area east of Tygh Valley. The two bodies have not been recovered.
According to Undersheriff Lane McGill, on July 9, 2012 at approximately 2:18 p.m. a report was received that two males tried to walk behind the main falls to take a photograph and slipped into the pool at the base of the falls. Witnesses tried unsuccessfully to rescue them.
Wasco County Sheriff's Office is not anticipating the release of any additional information Monday evening. Questions may be directed to Undersheriff McGill on Tuesday at (541) 506-2580.
White River Day Use area is about four miles east of Tygh Valley along Highway 216. The day use area is closed to all access until further notice.
Oregon State Police will not answer any questions related to their investigation and recovery efforts.
