Shortly after 3:00pm, three construction workers were transported to area hospitals exhibiting signs of Carbon Monoxide Poisoning. The incident occured in the area of Roswell and Rockvorst in Milwaukie. Workers were reportedly using a gas powered circular saw to cut pieces of pipe in a trench that was not adequately ventilated. Co-workers reported the workers in the trench not acting right and called 911. The crew was working to install some piping under the rail tracks as part of the Milwaukie to Portland light rail project and has been on site for two weeks. The conditions of the workers are unknown at this time.

Carbon Monoxide is an odorless, colorless gas that can build up in the blood stream and cause sudden sickness and potentially death. CO is found in combustion fumes, such as those produced by cars and trucks, small gasoline engines, stoves, and gas ranges and heating systems. CO from these sources can build up in enclosed or semi-enclosed spaces and can be difficult to detect. Carbon Monoxide poisoning symptoms include headache, dizziness, weakness, nausea, vomiting, chest pain, and confusion.

Clackamas Fire would like to remind people to use powered equipment in a well ventilated area and to be aware of the signs and symptoms of Carbon Monoxide poisoning.
